About Sumner M. Cox
Cox: Died in Terre Haute, Ind. 2 mo, 24, 1890; Sumer M. Cox, age fifteen years, four months and twenty-one days, son of John and Alida H. Cox, a member of Coloma Monthly Meeting, Parke county, Indiana. At an early age, under Christian influence, he was taught implicit faith in Christ as a Savior, and at a series of meetings held by his uncle, David Hadley, at Coloma, five years ago, he was brought into a more definite experience and clearer understanding of the pardon of all past sins. The death of his dear father and older brother nearly two years ago, seemed to fall with great weight upon him, and left upon his character a marked effect, especially in bringing him into sympathy with his stricken mother and smaller brothers. He was a regular attender upo the means of grace, and greatly delighted in hte study of the Sabbath school lessons. In the devotion of the family he regularly read from the Bible, and seemed anxious to sustain this most sacred service. His last sickness was short, and his death unexpected A short time before he died, he requested his mother to pray for him, after which, in gentle tomes of prayer, he said "O Father, give me more faith and trust in Thee, and help me to live closer to Thee."
