I thought I would share my great grandmother's obituary, with other Richmond researchers.
Granddaughter of John Sherman Simms Richmond. Daughter of; Pleasant Holloman and Susan Ellen (Owens) Richmond.
Pioneer Mother Passes to Rest
Funeral Services for Mrs.(Anthony Sheridan) Phil Garroutte, This City conducted Baptist church.
Mrs. Missouri Palestine Garroutte, beloved wife of Phil Garroutte, this city, passed away at her home on south Gypsy avenue Tuesday morning, Jan 28, about 6 0’clock after a short illness of pneumonia. She has been a citizen of Shilder for the past thirteen years.
Deceased was born at Palestine, Texas, April 10, 1867, and at the time of her passing was nearing her 69th year. In July, 1885, she was united in marriage to her husband, Phil Garroutte, and to this union eleven children were born, seven of whom, with the husband and father survive her, and are Mrs. Elsie Rainwater, Fairfax; Maggie Bedwell of Springfield, MO, George, Roy, Clarence Earl, Harry and Elvin. Fifteen grandchildren, among whom a grandson, Earl McDaniel, also survive her, Earl having made his home with his grandparents for the past number of years. Two sisters and three brothers also survive her.
Forty years ago she united with the Baptist church, and has been a faithful follower of the Master.
Funeral services were conducted at the First Baptist church in Shidler, Wednesday afternoon at 2 0’clock by Rev. Glen E. Morrow, of the Presbyterian church, Rev. C. L. Truett, pastor of the Baptist church being out of the city. Following the services, interment was made at Grand View cemetery, near Kaw City, the Shildler funeral home having charge of the body and services at the grave.
Pall bearers were: M.F. Ford, Paul Shepherd, Hubert E. Nipps, Woodrow Blackstock, Eugene Truett and Clay Orr.
Flower Bearers: Mrs. George Wageck, Mrs. Ben Harriman and Mrs. Hubert E. Nipps.
Music: Mrs. L. M. Kelsey, soloist, Mrs. R. D. Stephen’s, pianist.
