About Susan Fairchild Grant

Susan was born in New York to Eunice Noble and Charles Fairchild, but was adopted as a child by her grand parents, Ezekiel (1787-1856)and Theodocia Bates(1789-1869) Noble. She joined the church as a youngster and came to Utah with her uncle Joseph Bates Noble in Jedediah M. Grant's company in 1847. After marrying Jedediah on 11 Feb 1849, she bore him two children, Joseph Hyrum and Susan Vilate, in addition to raising his daughter, Caroline, by his first marriage and an adopted son, Lewis McKeachie. Following Jedediah's death, she married his brother George D. Grant in 1858 and bore him a son named Franklin Davis Grant. They were later divorced. Susan lived out her life in West Bountiful, where she was president of the ward Relief Society (1878-85) and then Stake Relief Society president from 1886 to 1892, when she was called to the General Relief Society Board.
