About Susan Julia Taylor

Daughter of Charles W. and Julia Fagundus Mackey, she was widowed, lived at 1138 Elk St, Franklin, died there of angina pectoria, per death certificate 34692, whose informant was C. F. Mackey, Franklin. Buried Apr 22 1909.

Oil City Derrick, Wednesday, Apr 21 1909: Franklin, April 20 -- The community was shocked this morning when the death of Mrs. Susan Julia Taylor, widow of Hon. Charles E. Taylor, was announced. She had been in failing health and made her home with her brother, Captain Charles W. Mackey, 1435 Elk Street, adjoining her own residence. About 5 o'clock am she was seized with an attack of heart failure, and in a short time the spirit of the noble-minded and beloved Christian lady left its earthly tenement to mingle with the spirits of loved ones gone before.

She was born in Franklin January 16, 1834, and was the seventh child of Charles Washington and Julia Fagundas Mackey, who located here in the year 1831, and were honored and respected residents of this place for many years. Susan Julia Mackey was wedded to Charles E. Taylor, a young attorney, in July 1853, and the husband was twice elected president of the Venango County courts. She was beloved by everybody within the circle of her acquaintances. Her sweetness of disposition and willingness to aid the poor and distressed endeared her to all, and in her death, scores of people and those related by ties of blood feel a personal bereavement. From her youth, she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, and in her girlhood days, a member of the choir. Many deeds of kindness and charily performed by Mrs. Taylor along life's pathway will not be forgotten, even though the hand that gave so freely has been held out for the last time, and the heart which promoted the good deeds has forever given up beat. The bereaved relatives have the sympathy of the community. Services will be held at the Mackey residence at 3 o'clock pm Tuesday with Rev. E. E. Beattie officiating.
