About Susannah Lilly
Susanna Smith was the daughter of Mary Burks and Obadiah Smith. She was born April 28, 1746 in St. James Northam Parish, Goochland County, Virginia. She is believed to have died in Bourbon County, Kentucky after 1792 and before 1810.
It is my belief that Susannah married Thomas Lilly, although several web trees show her married to Isaac Winston. Isaac actually married her sister Elizabeth.
Thomas Lilly was born c.1737 in Virginia and died in Bourbon County, Kentucky after December 1, 1810. His father may have been Edmund Lilly. He may have been the brother of Armiger and William Lilly. He is found in Fluvanna County, Virginia in 1786 through 1790, on various tax registers. It is soon after 1790 that the family moves to Kentucky. He wrote his will on December 1, 1810, and died soon after.
Bourbon County, Kentucky, is the remnant of what was previously a much larger Bourbon County, established as part of Virginia in 1785 and comprising what are now thirty-four modern Kentucky counties. The area later became known as Old Bourbon in reference to its historical expanse. It was originally part of the French province of Louisiana, then after 1763 became part of Virginia, but was transferred to the newly formed Commonwealth of Kentucky in 1792.
