About Susie Gertrude Ashworth

Susie was the mother of George Edward DOB 1900, Raymond Henry DOB 1902 and Howard Willis Ashworth DOB 1904. Susie married George Ashworth circa 1899.

I have a few photographs that she wrote on the back of. I have rarely seen such beautiful handwriting.

She is the daughter of Mary Reba Smith (Walker) After being divorced by Great Grandfather Nathaniel she married a Robie and was called Grandma Rodie by my father Raymond Henry Sr., and more then likely all her grandchildren. His new wife (former house keeper) was referred to as Grandma Smith. This is confirmed by my father and how he identified them in photographs I have written mostly in my father's hand.,

Nathaniel E. Smith, Superintendent Telegraph, for The New York New Haven & Hartford RR.

Susie Gertrude Ashworth was my Grandmother, my brother Raymond and sister Wanda, and the Grandmother to George Richard, Gloria Hines Ashworth, and Howard Wiliis's, children Susie, Floyd Tom and Bob.

Her sudden passing in 1908 was the result of some very bad advice of someone very close to her. Susie Rothauge (Ashworth) quoting Mary Rebia Robie (Walker), Susie Ashworth's mother and Susie Rothauge's Great Grand Mother who lived with her family in Bee Ridge Fl. until she passed.

Except for George Richard who only accepts his Step Grandmother, Anna Elizabeth Moore (Pucci), Nat Smith's second wife (he married the help, his house keeper). This was circa 1899.

This woman Nathaniel E. Smith's second wife lived and supported George Edward Ashworth, with Nathaniel E. Smith's hard earned money from 1918 (WHEN HE DIED) to 1945 when she passed. Geo. E., continued to live large the rest of his life.. Smith's second wife left enough money to send his children to college. Lived in a nice English Tudor Home and new car every couple of years.

It should be noted that my father Raymond Henry did not speak to brother George Edward from 1920 when he skipped town (New Haven) until 1952 in Sarasota Fl. (32 Years). And that was only on the insistence of his father that he speak to him before he died. Grandpa George passed in January of 1955.

Written on the back by George Ashworh:

"Taken in Bro Smith yard How I wish your dear Mother could see her Grandchildren wouldn't she love them? This is just the way it is written. Apparently he still missed her, forty years later. Keep in mind Grandpa (George Ashworth) waited 18 years to remarry.
