Mrs. Michael Ries, died at her home near New Vienna this morningfollowing an illness o f about a year's duration. She was 61 years old.She is survived by five children. Andy of H oly Cross; Lawerence, athome; Mrs. Marie Lukan, and Mrs. Tony Meyer, Holy Cross, and Madalen a athome; three stepsons, Thomas, John and Peter, two brothers and foursisters.

Funeral arrangements have not been completed."

"Mrs. Mike Ries, Sr. Claimed by Death

Passed Away At the Family Home Near New Vienna Wednesday Morning.

New Vienna, IA., Dec. 30.-Mrs. Mike Ries, well known and highlyesteemed resident of thi s vicinity, passed away at the family home onWednesday morning at 10:45, after an illness o f several months duration,due to complications.

Deceased's maiden name was Miss Susanna Elenz, and she was bornAugust 31, year 1869. Sh e was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. M.Elenz. Her education was received in the rura l and in St. Bonifaceschools, and she grew to young womanhood here.

On Jan. 27, 1891, the deceased was united in marriage to Mr. MikeRies Sr., in St. Bonifa ce church of this place, the late Rev. Father F.W. Pape officiating. After thier marriage th ey settled down tohousekeeping on a farm near here, and that place has been thier home eversi nce. Besides her husband, Mrs. Ries is survived by the followingchildren, John A., Peter, An thony, and Laurence, four stepsons, and Lena,at home, Susie, Mrs. Tony Maiers, of Holy Cross, Marie, Mrs. Herman Lukanof Luxemburg. She is also survived by two brothers, Matt Elenz o f NewHampton, Jacob Elenz of Waterloo, her sisters, Miss Clara Elenz of htisplace, margaret o f Woodward, IA., Barbara, Mrs. John A. Ries, New Vienna,Lena, Mrs. John Sturm of Belgrade, Mi nn., Mary, Mrs. Ernest Heying,Belgrade, Minn.

The funeral was held Wednesday morning at 9:30 o'clock to St.Boniface church where requi em highmass was sung for the repose of hersoul by Rev. Father H. Reinert, after which interme nt was made in St.Boniface cemetary. The pallbearers were six nephews of the deceased,Messr s Alphonse and Vincent Ries, Matt and Joe Ries, Eugene and CyrillElenz.

Mrs. Ries, was a true type of Christain womanhood, a devoted wife,and mother, and a stau nch Catholic. Her thoughts were always centered inher home and in the family circle, she alw ays found peace andcontentment.
