About Sverre Trygve Rostad
Sverre Trygve was born on the Rostad farm in Beitstad in Nord-Trøndelag, Norway, on January 30, 1886. He was baptized three months later on April 25 in what was then called Solberg church (today Beitstad church). His parents were farmer Ole Andreas Torbergsen and Mette Gurine Paulsdaughter (usually written Paulsdtr. in old Norwegian sources).
Sverre was the oldest of eight siblings which meant he would normally be the one to inherit the farm after his father, but instead Sverre decided to emigrate, like so many other Norwegians at the time, to America; on June 13, 1907, the 21 year old Sverre T. Ols. Rostad boarded the Canadian Lines vessel Salmo with Fergus Falls in Minnesota as his given destination. Sverre was listed in the emigration record as an unmarried farm worker ("ug. Gaardsarb"):

In Minnesota, Sverre settled in the town of Underwood in Otter Tail County, about 30 miles west of Fergus Falls. He bought a farm and married Hulda Skjølberg, who despite her Norwegian sounding name was born and raised in Minnesota. Sverre and Hulda raised five children before Sverre passed away on June 13, 1935, only 51 years old.
Sverre was buried at Tingvold Lutheran Church Cemetery in Underwood.
In some American archives Sverre is listed as Sverre Rustad.
