RAJALakshmi Thiruvaiyaru Panchapakesa Sastri Rajalakshmi (11 November 1911[1]-1964) was the first Tamil film Heroine, first Tamil female film director and film producer. • Early life Rajalakshmi was born in 11 November 1911 in the town of Thiruvaiyaru in the then Tanjore districtof the Madras Presidency and was married off at the age of seven.Rajalakshmi's decision to act in movies for a living caused her conservative husband to divorce her. At the age of 20, Rajalakshmi fell in love with and married T. V. Sundaram.They adopted an Orphan child named Malliga inorder to save the girl child from "Girl Child Assaaination", that was practiced in those days and later the couple gave birth to their own child named Kamala and T.P.Rajalakshmi directed a film named "Miss.kamala" on the year 1936,after the birth of their child Kamala.Rajalakshmi permitted her brothers also to live in her palace "Raj Mahal" that was located at No.1.Rajarathinam street and followed by Many Houses in Rajarathinam Street and Professor Vasu Street,Kilpauk In 1938, Rajalakshmi directed her first feature film Miss Kamala. Rajalakshmi fell sick and died by 1964 Stage career In order to support her family, Rajalakshmi joined a drama troupe and acted in stageplays. She learnt dance and music from Sankaradas Swamigal, a popular dramatist. Rajalakshmi got her big break in 1931, when she was cast as the heroine in the first Tamil talkie, Kalidas.
