About Te Aho-o-te-Rangi
One of the wives of Koraurau was Te Aho-o-te-Rangi was one of the few people who escaped under cover of darkness. As she dived into Te Awanui with her baby, Hohepa Hikutaia Te Mea on her back, she was shot. Te Aho managed to swim to Whareroa, getting her baby to safety before she died (bio by Debbie McCauley, 12 January 2022).
