Teboho Machakela (1983 - 2020)
Brief overview:
Teboho (37), a cattle farmer outside Odendaalrus, was shot in the head during a robbery at his farm shop on 19th August 2020. After the attack he was hospitalised and in a coma for six weeks before he was discharged and sent back home. He died from his injuries on Monday 2nd November 2020.
His father, Serame Machakela, said that one of the perpetrators threatened to Teboho just days before they attacked him, and they opened a case of assault against him. "We are still waiting for assailants known to us to be arrested,” he said.
"Piet Mothepu, the acting chairperson of Afasa in the Free State, was close to the young farmer. He says, “I got this news very late yesterday. I started to share it (widely) because he was such an instrumental figure in the black farming community. He was an academic, who would go out of his way to help those in need.”"
