About Temperance Amanda Crawford
Her obituary, published in the Nashville Whig stated: "Mrs. Temperance B. Peck, Dau of the late Major Lazarus Crawford died in Weakley County near Dresden on the 17th inst in the 44th year of her life."
Temperance first married Jacob Thompson in Rutherford County, TN on 1 March 1817. Alfred Blackman, her brother-in-law was the surety.
Nothing is know regarding this union and Jacob Thompson has not been located in the 1820 Tennessee census Index nor 1820 Tennessee census for Rutherford County. He was however found on the 1812 muster roll of the Company of Mounted Militia Infantry commanded by Captain John Crawford, ordered into service for the protection of the southwestern frontiers against raids by the Creek Indians. It has been assumed that Thompson died, perhaps during a military skirmish with the Indians.
