About Thomas Anderson
Surgeon Dr in Selkirk succeeded his father. Friend and Brother-in-law of Mungo Park, Married Margaret daughter of Henry Scott, Deloraine, Selkirkshire. She died in 1836. It may be said of this well known Dr that he spent a large potion of his life in the saddle, as, in the early days of this century, the bridle path was more in use than the turnpike road in the county of Selkirk. Dr Thamas Anerson never spared himself in his professional work and LIKE TO THE POOR WAS KIND AND ATTENTIVE.. He was the prototype of Sir Walter Scott's "Gideon Gray" and a pleasing account of his life was written by Dr John Brown in his Horae Subsecivae" entitled "Our Gideon Grays" He died in Selkirk leaving 4 sons and 4 daughters.
