About Thomas Baker

Served in King Philip's War as did brothers Daniel, William, and Samuel.

From Sally Thomas:

  • b. 1645/5
  • he married c 1699 a woman named Bathsheba.
    • It has been suggested with a high degree of probability that she may have been the Bathsheba or Bashua Lewis b. Oct 1667, dau of George Lewis and Mary Lumbard. Bashua Lewis Married 1st 10 Aug 1690 John O’Kelia, who died in 1695.

Thomas Baker was the son to whom most of the father’s property was left—possibility because the other sons had been provided for, Thomas being the only one still unmarried at the time of his father’s death. Thomas and his mother were made joint executors of the father’s will.

Thomas lived at Yarmouth and shared in the division of common lands there in 1712, after which we find no further trace of him.

Thomas and Bathsheba had 3 children.

  • 1. Mary
    • b. 7 Apr 1701;
    • m. 22 Nov. 1722 Caleb Pearce.
    • Was he the Caleb b. 1690 to Benjamin Pearce and Martha Adams of Scituate, Mass? If so, he died after 1730.
  • 2.Thomas
    • b. 4 Mar. 1703
    • m. (Phebe Chase)
  • 3.Poss dau. Bathsheba; who could account for the following item: Israel Hamlin of Yarmouth, b. 15 Mar. 1694, son of Israel Hamlin and Abigail Lumbard, m 1st 29 Mar. 1715 Dorcas Godfrey, dau of John and Martha Joyce; and 2nd 17 June 1738 Bathsheba Baker.
    • Bathsheba’s 2 children, Thankful and Israel, were born in 1739 and 1741.
