Thomas Massie Barton, son of Ozias Preston Barton and Rachel Massie, was born Nov. 3, 1840 in Chestnut, Knox Co., Illinois. He married with SARAH AMELIA HUMPHREY. She was born Feb. 18, 1845 in Ohio. He died Dec. 23, 1890 in Hermon, Knox Co., Illinois; she died May 24, 1924 in Knoxville, Knox Co., Illinois. He is buried at Hermon Christian Church Cemetery, Hermon, Knox Co., Illinois; she died May 24, 1924 in Knoxville, Knox Co., Illinois and is buried at Knoxville Cemetery, Knoxville, Knox Co., Illinois.
Children were (data known): Rachel L. (1865-1945; m. Harry Duke), and Cyrus Altheus (1872-1962).
Thomas M. Barton is a farmer, a resident on section 16, in Knox Township, and is one of the most solid and substantial men in that vicinity. He is well known and popular in his county and township, and has been very prosperous in his chosen vocation. He was born in Chestnut Township, 3 November 1840, and is the son of Ozias and Rachel (Massie) Barton. He assisted his father on the farm during boyhood and was educated in the district schools.
He made his home under the parental roof until his marriage on Mar. 6, 1862. This was celebrated with Amelia Humphrey as the other contracting party. She was born in Tuscarawas Co., Ohio on 17 Feb. 1845, and is the daughter of Elder Cyrus and Henrietta (Baughman) Humphrey. At the time of his marriage, Mr. Barton located in Chestnut Township, where he rented land tow two years; and then in Knox Township two years, and subsequently bought the farm he now occupies.
Seven children were born of their union: George H., Rachel L., John Q., Mary Henrietta, Cyrus A., Almond E., and Phoebe Arizona.
