Thomas was born in Stoke which is 8km south of Nelson and died in Dovedale which is 50km south west of Nelson.

Thomas was the 7th child of Richard and Sarah (nee Ironmonger) Burnett.

He married Ellen Davies when he was 24 and she was 27. They had 8 (known) children.

He died 10 years before her Both are buried at Dovedale cemetery. . .

Thomass sister Emily (Emma) married his wifes (Ellens,) brother, Edwin
