Thomas (2), son of Thomas (1) and Sarah (Kelley) Burpee, was born in Rowley, October 25, 1663. He was married, December 23, 1690, to Esther Hopkinson, born April 9, 1667, died October 30, 1722, daughter of Jonathan and Hester (Clark) Hopkinson. He died in Rowley, June 24, 1709. His eleven children were named Jeremiah, Sarah (died young), Esther, Thomas, Ebenezer, Jonathan, David, Hannah, Nathan, Sarah and Samuel.

Biography

Thomas Burkby (also spelled as Thomas Burpe and Thomas Burpee), was born 25 Dec 1663 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts to Thomas Burpee and Sarah Kelley.[1] Thomas married Hester Hopkinson 3 Dec 1690 in Rowley. [2]

Most of their children appear in documents as Burpe or Burpee (both spellings appearing even within the same documents). Thomas and Hester had eleven children:

Jeremiah Burpe (1691 MA - 1723 MA) had descendants and is expanded below.
Sarah Burpe {a} was born 15 Dec 1692 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 13 Dec 1702 in Rowley, age 10.
Esther Burpee (b. 1693 MA) had descendants
Thomas Burpee (1695 MA - d. MA) had descendants
Ebenezer Burpee (1697 MA - 1771 MA) had descendants
Jonathan Burpe (1699 MA - 1781 Canada) had descendants
David Burpe {a} was born 27 Nov 1701 in Rowley (Essex) Massachusetts, and died 13 Dec 1728.
Thomas died according to some, 24 Jun 1709 in Rowley.[3][4] His estate was administered in Jan 1716.

Research Notes

Surname Variations

Their name is seen as Burpe, Burpee, Burkbee, Burkby. Thomas was most likely named Burkby at birth. They did not start dropping the k until probably about 1700, but he is commonly seen in genealogies as Thomas Burpee.
