He signed an affidavit in 1733, statins; his age to

be fifty-nine years ; this is all that is certainly

known regarding his age. He was of that numer-

ous family of Butlers descended from the house of

Ormond. The exact date when he settled in Ber-

wick is not definitely known ; but that he was here

as early as 1698 with his wife Elizabeth appears !>}-

the certificate of the birth of their son Thomas, con-

tained in the town "Records" of Kittery, March 6,

His wife

died December 2d, 1728, and was buried in the old

four different versions of who were the parents of our Thomas of Berwick. They all are of the same Thomas, married to Elizabeth Abbott and etc.

1. Found under " Andrews Family Line, Gen. #12." Born in Kittery, Me. Father: Samuel Butler. Mother: Elizabeth Olmsted.

2. LDS info; Two versions; both born in Kittery, Me. Father; Samuel Butler. Mother; Elizabeth Olmsted. 2nd version LDS, father, James Butler,, Duke of Ormonde, Mother was Elizabeth Preston.

3. Betty Morrow version: Born in Ireland 1674. Father , James Butler of Boytonrath and Tipperary. No mother given.

4. Thomas, born in Ireland, 1674 and etc. Father was Edmund Butler and mother was Juliana Hyde.

According to "The Next Earl of Ormond" compiled by Lord Dunboyne in 1997 Thomas was unmarried but had an illegitimate son. His nephew James is listed as presumed d.s.p. before 8 May 1741 when his uncle, Thomas, had taken up residence at Kilmoyler. This would not permit this Thomas to be our Thomas in Berwick, Maine as he was there before 1698. Birth and death dates are very close to ours and he is a decendant of the 7th. son of the 9th. Earl of Ormonde.

Descendent of 9th Duke of Ormond of Ireland, teacher, owned a mill and was elected to public office 35 times- the Dukes of Ormond were created by Edward lll and sent to Ireland by Henry ll in 1172, they were also there under King John-they originally came from France with William the Conquerer
