About Thomas Jefferson Cave
Thomas Cave married three times. His first wife was Elizabeth Medford. Both came from Spartanburg County, South Carolina. His son John was born in Spartanburg on December 23, 1808. Thomas fought in the War of 1812. Sarah Jane Cave, their fifth daughter, was born on January 6, 1813. He later moved from South Carolina to Kentucky and lived a while in Louisville. In 1816, he came to Indiana and settled in Dubois County. There he obtained land along what was known as the Buffalo Trail and made a home.
Some years after Thomas Cave came to Indiana, Elizabeth, his first wife, died. He was married the second time to Lucinda Darnell. Two children, James and Nancy, were born to this union.
After his second wife died, Thomas married for the third time to Mrs. Fannie Davis, a widow. His son Thomas was born. James, Nancy, and Thomas all grew up together and were married while living on their father's farm.
