About Thomas Charles Bowman Cooper
Tom was a champion wood chopper at shows. He worked with his brother Sam cutting timber for sleepers and was tragically killed by a falling tree branch. Tom and Sam had cut down a tree and had their lunch. They were just ready to return to work when the branch fell. This headstone photo does not show the detail of the headstone which has an axe at the top. Gordon Parsons the country music singer wrote about this tragedy when cutting cedar with Tom's brother Joe up river from Taylors Arm. The song is called 'the passing of Cobber Jack'. Gordon also wrote 'the pub with no beer' about the same time when out camping in the bush with Joe Cooper. The setting for Gordons song was the Taylors Arm hotel.* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Nov 8 2022, 6:59:52 UTC
