About Thomas Coad (Coode)
This gedcom begins with three men John , Thomas and Hugh Coode or Coade, probably brothers, who arrived in St Keverne about 1630.
It is not clear where they came from. There is some evidence that Hugh returned to Devon after the death of his brothers and they may have been from there. Alternatively they may have been of the Menheniot line. Joan Coode had already married Sampson Sandys, an upstart landowner nearby. The Sannes/Sandys were similar to the Menheniot Coodes in that the y adopted an old name and standard, and t hey had six sons who fought in the Civil war. However there is no evidence tying the brothers to this family.
Every subsequent Coad in Lizard (and quite a few miners from Helston and Kea) is descended from Thomas. Several branches of the family went to South Australia and California.
