Thomas Cockcroft (13), together with his parents Harriet Farrar Bailie (36), and Charles Cockcroft (35), a Cloth dresser, and 2 siblings, were members of Jonathan Wainwright's Party of 24 Settlers on the John.
Party originated from Yorkshire, England.
Departed Liverpool, 13 January 1820. Arrived Table Bay, Cape Town on 19 April 1820. Final Port - Algoa Bay, Port Elizabeth May 1820.

Thomas was Commandant at Clumber Station in The Seventh Frontier War. In 1849 he became Municipal Commissioner of Grahamstown, and was elected to the Bathurst Divisional Council, representing Clumber in 1854. Thomas and his brother, William, donated the land for the erection of a chapel and burial ground at Shaw Park. The church was completed in 1864.
