About Thomas Duke
From Ted Collins' Genealogy Page:
Thomas Duke (sometimes seen as John Duke) was born before 1650 in Virginia and died about 1675 in New Kent County, Virginia. John Duke purchased "patented" 622 acres on Tyascun Swamp, which is found near the northern part of Wallingford Parish near the New Kent County border. His wife Mary had been deeded 400 acres of the Tyascun plantation for her dowry - making theholdings over one thousand acres. John's death left Mary a wealthy young widow.
A patent was issued on 20 Apr 1682 to Mrs. Mary Wade, widow of Thomas Duke, for lands assigned by Thomas Hampton. She had by then married a Wade, after the death of Thomas Duke.
