Buried beside his first wife Julia Elizabeth Wininger.
He served in the 3rd OHIO CAV CO. F. USA with his father-in-law Solomon Wininger. He lost his vision in the 1870's due to the measles. He was the pastor of the Methodist church next to the Gentle Cemetery and continued to preach even after losing his vision. He would call upon a youth in the congregation to whisper the passages of Scripture in his ear, which he would then recite. He was affectionately known as "Blind Tom".
