About Thomas Gilbert
At one time Thomas was a postman at Paraparaumu, delivering mail by walking round the beach. He also worked on the Wellington trams when they were horse-drawn. When first married , Helen and Thomas farmed at Pauatahanui . How-ever , following a family disagreement over a land deal, they moved to Stanway, Feilding where they continued to farm. For many yeats there was little contact between them and the other members of the Howell family.
