About Thomas Hackett
Thomas b. 1809 at Oakethorpe, died from ‘apoplexy’ 17.9.1879 at Tansley m. 23.5.1832 at St Mary Church, Kingston-on-Hull, Yorkshire (M105521, 0990838, 691099), Catherine Peters (d. 1875 in Bakewell district, aged 66. Ref BMD.) Both buried in family grave outside Methodist Chapel at Tansley. Thomas received ownership of the Tansley Mill from his father, with whom he had been in partnership and was himself joined later by his son, William Peters Hackett. They were declared bankrupt in 1879, it is thought due to being un- or under-insured when fire damaged the mill.
