(Thosten Olsen)
------------------------------------------
Thomas O. Hem could have changed his name from Lars or Ole Olsen Hem.
In the 1900 Census, he was renting a home at 1139? Lafayette or Greeley Ave. in Kansas City, Kansas. His occupation was listed as "Scale Implements".
In the 1915 census he was found in Wyandotte County, Kansas City. I'm not sure when or if he went to Dallas, TX.
He immigrated in 1885, or so the census says.
There was a newspaper clipping (no date) which said he was celebrating his 100th birthday and was as chipper as ever. His address was listed as 2211 N 12th St. (which is on the corner of Greeley I think) in Kansas City, Kansas where he was a resident since 1895. At 100, he was still handling his own financial affairs and correspondence and Bible reading. He built the house on 12th St and shared it with his housekeeper Mrs. Grace Roberts.
He was a Masonic Lodge member since 1895 and in the IOOF since 1891. He was the oldest member of the Summanduwat IOOF Lodge.
He "retired" twice, first from Fairbanks (?) ---Co. at 84 and then from Howe Scale Company...." The newspaper article was torn off and I couldn't read any more except the words "the Exchange".
It mentioned him coming from hardy stock and said he had a sister who turned 102 on December 4, when he turned 100. She lived in Madison, WIsconsin and her name was Mrs. Emma Stark
