EARLY CLERMONT COUNTY DEATHS FROM THE CLERMONT SUN by Jennie Marshall

Died June 8th, 1855, in Lee County, Iowa, Edmund Hitch, in the 49th year of his age. He was a native of Kentucky and emigrated with his father, T. Hitch, Sr. and settled in Monroe Township, Clermont County, Ohio in 1814, where he resided until '51, when he removed to Iowa. He is the first that have died of a family of eight children, the oldest is now 61 and the youngest 44 years old. The father is still living in his 83rd year. He has left a wife and three children with many friends in Ohio and Iowa to mourn their loss. June 28, 1835

!Birth date - censuses and obit. In the 1860 census, he was living with William and his age was listed as 73 and place of birth as Maryland. (1860 census of Clermont County, Tate Township, Ohio, p.276)

!Second marriage - obit. and Clermont marriage records.

!He moved from Maryland to Limestone (now Maysville), KY in 1797 with his wife and one child, John. He cleared a farm in Bracken County, Kentucky and then moved in 1802 to Pendleton County, Kentucky near Falmouth where he cleared a farm. In 1814 he purchased part of the John Woodford survey, #1156 in Clermont County, Ohio (near Laurel) and moved his wife and eight children there to get away from slavery. The first meeting of Monroe Twp. was held in his home on 25 Jun 1825 and he was a Trustee of the Laurel M. E. Church. After Jane's and Florence's deaths he moved to Bantam, where he died.

!Ruhama Fagley believes that he is buried in Laurel Cemetery in Clermont County next to his wife Jane (she has a marker). There is a space on each side of her.

!He was definitely Joseph Hitch's brother (history written by Joseph's son as referenced in notes on Joseph.)
