ROBBERY.-On Saturday, the 23rd April instant, as Thomas Kirk and John Waters, both residents of Yellow Mundies, were returning homeward with their teams from the mountains they were attacked by three ruffians on the public road, about half a mile on the Richmond side of Lander's public-house, between Richmond and Castlereagh, at a lonesome place. They were rather late in the evening, Thomas Kirk taking the lead and lying down in his dray, Waters sitting behind in the same dray, and making his horses follow. All of a sudden the horses of Waters' dray stopped; he then jumped off and went back for his team. In the meantime Thomas Kirk found himself surrounded by two or three ruffians, who spoke not a word for fear of discovery by their voices. They cut off Kirk's pocket's, which were fortunately empty, and robbed him of his coat and blankets, besides which they gave him a blackeye. They then went back to Waters, whom they used in a brutal manner, robbing him of his money, amounting to about £14, and then taking him, with his team, far away into the bush. It was Sunday morning before he reached home, after travelling all night in the bush without a road. One of the scoundrels sat with an open knife by the side of him and threatened to take his life if he presumed to move his lips. The ruffians who it is supposed acted thus are well known to the inhabitants. The matter has been reported to the police, and it is to be hoped they will succeed in capturing the wretches that they may meet with deserved punishment.
