Theophilus Lomax was born ca. 1792 in NC and died 1866 in Rockport, IL. His brother was Thomas Lomax (1785-1814). They married sisters, Thomas to Susannah Maroon and Theophilus to Elizabeth Maroon (1792-1862).
A letter from the Adjutant General's Office of the War Department, Washington, D.C., dated 2 Aug. 1938, addressed to Victor W. Lomax states, in part: "The records also show that Thomas Lomax served as a private of Capt. Andrew Lawson's regiment, East Tennessee Militia, commanded by Col. William Johnson. His service commenced 20 Sept. 1814, and he died 18 Nov. 1814. His residence is given as Sevier County."
Mrs. Alice Lomax Ream wrote in her letter of 25 September 1991 that she had Thomas' war record: "5 Regiment, Johnsons East Tenn. Militia (War of 1812). Then later he fought in the Seminole Indian War in Florida -- only living a month -- died of swamp fever. He had a son John Lomax and a daughter Martha (Meadows -- 5 children). Both children were made orphans at an early age and were raised by Theophilus and wife Elizabeth.
