Many researchers place Thomas' birth about 1815 but this census puts it about 1836. There is no direct evidence about his parents, but he lived in Berkeley County where a Fountain Mallory was living in 1850, and he named one of his sons Fountain. Therefore, he might have been a brother of the older Fountain.
