PROGRESS, steamer: As the result of losing her tailshaft the previous evening while steaming across Cook Strait, at noon on May 1, 1931, the Progress was totally wrecked in Owhira Bay, Wellington, four members of of the crew being drowned. The eight survivors were rescued after being battered on the rocks by heavy seas, and with the exception of the master, all were admitted to hospital. ......"
