Biography

Thomas Meehan, III was born on July 8, 1921 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, United States. His parents were Thomas Meehan, Jr and Marion Meehan (McCarthy). He was a 1st Lieutenant (US Army), Paratrooper.

Thomas married Anne Shore. Together they had the following children: Barrie Meller.

He died on June 6, 1944 in Beuzeville-au-Plain, Manche, Normandy, France from Plane shot down - WWII (D-Day) and was buried in 1952 in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery (Plot 84 0 25-31), St. Louis, St. Louis County, Missouri, United States.



Thomas Meehan was the second Company Commander of "Easy Company," 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division. He was killed during the Battle of Normandy, when the C-47 Skytrain plane he was on was hit by German Anti-Aircraft fire over Beuzeville-au-Plain, approximately two miles south of the town of Sainte-Mere-Eglise. He was portrayed by Jason O'Mara in the HBO miniseries "Band of Brothers." On June 6, 2000, a memorial was established at the Beuzeville-au-Plain church to Meehan, and the other paratroopers killed when their plane was shot down.
