About Thomas Morel de la Durantaye, sieur de la Durantaye

Note about Place of Birth and Death: This profile indicated (before May 2014) that Thomas was born and died in "Notre-Dame du Gouvray, Saint-Brieuc, Bretagne, France" (there was no source posted on this profile for this). This is most likely incorrect. (I know, this data has been repeated over and over on the Internet; it is incorrect nonetheless.) It is inconsistent with Olivier Morel's Act of Marriage (attached). This source shows that Thomas is from "la paroisse de Notre-Dame de la ville et franchise du Gâvre (Le Gâvre), évêché de Nantes". Thomas was a seigneur and certainly had lived on his lands in his life. Saint-Brieuc is 100 miles away from Le Gâvre, therefore, very unlikely that he was born and died so far away from his family property. Furthermore, Olivier's Act of Marriage is a reliable source: It was written by prêtre Henri de Bernières, a most respectable cleric, while Olivier was educated (he knew how to read and write). In addition, the Governor of Nouvelle-France, Daniel de Rémy, and the Intendant of the King, Jean Talon, were witnesses to the ceremony. Olivier, a noble man, would have made sure that de Bernières had his facts right about his parents. Therefore, we are inserting "Notre-Dame, Le Gâvre, Bretagne, France" as place of birth and death until better sources are available.

Note #2: The sources posted with this profile say that Thomas was living and probably died at Le Gâvre, but say nothing about where he was born. for example, Thomas could have been born at his father's place, in Blain, Bretagne. We need better sources for the place of birth.
