Killed in action - France

Captain Thomas Arthur Nelson lived at Achnacloich, Connel, Argyllshire, Scotland. He also lived at St. Leonards, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.

Thomas Arthur Nelson (died on 9 April 1917, aged 40) was a Scottish rugby union player, in business as Nelson's book publisher.

He played for Oxford University RFC and was capped for Scotland in 1898.[1]

The John Buchan novel The Thirty-Nine Steps is dedicated to him. Nelson and Buchan had been friends since Nelson was an undergraduate at University College, Oxford.[2] He became head of the family publishing firm of Thomas Nelson and Sons, which employed Buchan as literary advisor and was one of the writer's publishers.[3]

He was killed in World War I at the Battle of Arras[4] while serving as Captain with the Lothians and Border Horse.[1]
