About Thomas Poole
Thomas Poole, a fuller in Charfield Co. Gloucester (b.c. 1589 d. bef 1632), settled in Ireland and purchased Knockanemeele (later named Mayfield) in Bandon Co. Cork in 1628.
Burke records that the Poole family of Mayfield descends from the Poole family of Poole Hall Co. Chester via the Pooles of Sapperton in Glos. He suggests two younger sons of Sir Henry Poole went to Ireland: the elder , Thomas, settled in Bandon and the younger, Samuel (ancestor of Thomas Poole of Ballyfin) settled in Northern Ireland .
Ffolliott provides an alternative & probably a more reliable pedigree, recording Thomas the fuller as the son of Thomas Poole, a yeoman of Charfield, Co. Glos. She suggests that this Thomas was probably a son of John Poole.
Thomas Poole married Jane Stock on the 2nd May 1614. She married secondly in 1632 Edward Watkins (probate 1642) and thirdly before 1649 Unknown Haward. Thomas Poole and Jane Stock had 6 known children:
- Thomas of Knockanemeele
- John
- Samuell
- Daniel
- Capt. John
- Joseph
