Brief Biography

67. Thomas RENEAU (5)(1) (2) was born on 4 Apr 1760 in , Frederick, VA. He died in 1840 in Blue River Twp., Harrison, Indiana. He has Ancestral File number 56CQ-5L. Revolutionary Pension File #25034 has Thomas Reneau living in Harrison Co., KY in 1833, age 73. In his pension application he says that he was born in Frederick Co., VA on April 11, 1760, and that before the war he lived at Chartier's Creek, which flows into the Ohio River about 4 miles below Pittsburgh. He said that he served in the Revolutionary War near Pittsburg in 1778, then spent four years in Virginia, then lived 40 years in Tennessee, and had lived in Indiana 5 years (as of 1833) and so arrived there about 1828. He appears in the 1830 and 1840 censuses in Harrison County, Indiana, but not the 1820 census. Sherman Reno says that Thomas and wife Jane appear on the 1784 tax roll for Cecil Twp., Washington Co., PA. Thomas moved to Jefferson Co., TN at the same time as John. Jr. and George, his brothers, moving west from North Carolina along the French Broad River. He is found in many records of Jefferson Co., TN from 1792 to 1812. Several deeds are found in records of Harrison Co., Indiana: Thomas Reneau to George W. Jamison (2 Feb 1842, Book O p. 133); Thomas Reneau to Jane Reneau (his wife, 2 Feb 1842, Bk. O p. 134); William Riley Reneau from Silvester Renner (9 Jan 1850, Bk. W p. 265); William Riley Reneau from Jane Reneau (Book W p. 266); William R. Reneau and Elizabeth to John Hancock (7 Sep 1869, Bk O-2, p.628). The land he deeded to his wife Jane in 1842 is subsequently deeded to his grandson William Riley on January 9, 1850.
