Thomas Root, II

• Thomas ROOT Jr. was born in Hartford, Hartford, CT Abt 1640/41.
• He married Abigail ALVORD Northampton, Hampshire, MA, 3 Jul 1666.
  • Abigail was born in Windsor, Hartford, CT 6 Oct 1647.
  • Abigail was the daughter of Alexander ALVORD and Mary VORE.
• Thomas Root Jr. is somewhat of a mystery. He arrived in Northampton with his father about 1654/55, and swore the 'Freeman's oath' at the same time as his father (1661).
• He married Abigail Alvord on 3 Jul 1666 in Northampton, and had either 3 or 4 children with her. [ only 3 are listed in the VR's)
  • Abigail was the daughter of Alexander Alvord & Mary Vore of Windsor.
  • Abigail died 17 Jun 1699 Northampton, Hampshire, MA, at 51 years of age.
• When a town inventory was performed (about 1663), Thomas Jr. was listed, but owned no property of his own, indicating that he was probably still living with his parents.
• Even though he was a freeman, he seems to have taken little part in the affairs of the town, and appears to have left there soon after the death of his wife.
• He may have reappeared the following year in Boston, and later in Lynn. He supposedly married next, a widow named Mary Cox, who was the daughter of Philip Kirtland. (This marriage is mentioned in Savage, but I have to wonder if it is actually the same Thomas Roote, or another of the same name)
• Thomas ROOT Jr. and Abigail ALVORD had the following children:
  • 16 i. Thomas3 ROOT III was born Northampton, Hampshire, MA 11 Apr 1667. Thomas died 13 Nov 1756 at 89 years of age.
  • 17 ii. Abigail ROOT was born Northampton, Hampshire, MA 20 Jan 1669.
  • 18 iii. Samuel ROOT was born Northampton, Hampshire, MA 16 Nov 1673.

• Thomas Root married Abigail Alvord,

  • on 3 July 1666 at Northampton, Hampshire Co., MA.[1]
• Thomas Root married Mary Kirtland on 4 December 1701.[1] (can't be as he died in 1694/pscoggin)
• Thomas' father was a weaver and was of Salem, Mass., 1637; of Hartford, Conn., 1639; of Northampton, Mass., 1649. He was one of the "seven pillars for the foundation of the church in 1661." [2]
