Thomas B. Roper, Lake County Pioneer, Passes Away

 Thomas B. Roper, age 82, passed away early Friday morning in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Asa Strong, on Water st., following a lingering illness.
 Mr. Roper was born in England, was one of Hobart's pioneer citizens, having resided here for 68 years.  He was the oldest member of the Hobart Masonic lodge, lacking a few weeks of holding membership with this order 60 years.  when the temple was built he expressed a desire that his funeral be held there with the Masonic rites.  He was the last survivor of five brothers who migrated from England to Hobart.
 Besides Mrs. Strong he is survived by two other daughters, Mrs. Ross Graham of Hobart and Mrs. Arthur Strong of Deepriver.  Fuenral services, in charge of the Hobart Masonic temple on Sunday afternoon, Rev. C. A. Brown, pastor of the M.E. Church officiating.  Burial in Crown Hill cemetery, in charge of Undertaker Wrobble. The Hammond Times Dec. 16, 1933 p. 3 Saturday DEATH OF THOS. ROPER Hobart, Ind. - Dec. 16 - Thomas J. Roper, age 82 years, was found dead in bed this morning at 2 o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ida Strong, of Hobart. He had been in feeble condition for several years.

 Besides Mrs. Strong, he leaves two other daughters, Mrs. Mary Strong of Crown Point and Mrs. Ruby Graham of Hobart.
 Mr. Roper was for many years a farmer in Ross Township, Lake county, owning a farm on the Lake-Porter county line.
 Funeral services will be held on Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Masonic temple in Hobart. (submitted by Kathy Heckman)
