About Thomas Senior
GEDCOM Note
Immigrated from England?? - have to check to see where this note came from. Note from Marilyn Collins Pikington on Port Elizabeth Facebook Group: Re info in my tree I came across that tree last week and noticed that there are a number of errors in it. The early Senior line, as I know it, is: Thomas and Ann Senior of Oderin had sons William (1813), Thomas (1816), John (1818), Samuel (1819), and Joseph (1819). The last two were twins. At least William and Thomas lived on Flat Islands; I haven’t checked to see if any of the others did. Successive generations seemed to bear the same names as those that came before, so sorting them out can be a bit of a challenge. William Senior married Ann Collins (born abt 1817), on 19 Oct 1832. Children were:•Elizabeth (1837)•Charles (1839)•Sarah (1845) – my gg grandmother•Susannah (1851)•Thomas George (1855)•Abraham Isaac (1856)•Amelia (1859)•Jacob (1862) As noted, William and Ann’s son Thomas George was born 12 Jan 1855. http://ngb.chebucto.org/Vstats/pre-1891-burin-meth-bap-1847-1860-p-... (Scroll down. Pg 67, first entry) Notes:•A Thomas Senior, aged 22, married Caroline Butler on 2 Nov 1877. One of the witnesses was Jacob Senior, Thomas George's brother. They had two children: Ellen (1878) and Abraham Isaac (1881). Thomas George had a little brother Abraham Isaac, who died in 1883 at the age of six. Given this, and the fact that the Thomas Senior who married Caroline Butler was born in 1855 (1877 – 22 = 1855), makes me pretty confident that this Thomas Senior is Thomas George Senior and that his middle name was omitted when he married Caroline. However, I don’t have a death record for Caroline Butler Senior.•Thomas George, a widower, aged 37, married Eleanor Mundon, spinster, on 5 Nov 1892. Again, the groom, according to his age upon his second marriage, was born in 1855. They had children Caroline (1894) and Oliver (1897)—and maybe others. I just took a quick glance at that line. It was common for a couple to name their child after the first wife in those days. Mary Andrews Collins was married to Thomas Senior (Jr), not to William Senior. Mary and Thomas married 30 Oct 1839. Their children, so far as I can determine, were: Anne (1845), James (1848), Susan (1850), Isaac (1853), Samuel (1855), Charles (1858), and Harriet (1861). I don’t have a record of their having a Thomas, but not all the records for this time exist. Hope this helps a bit.
