About Thomas Sims
"From Culpeper County to the Teays Valley" by Mildred Chapman Gibbs, p. 78.
The Will Of Thomas Sims, II, is found in Culpeper County, Va., in will book E, p. 345, dated 1809.
He leaves all of his estate, both real and personal, to his wife Mary Sims. At her death it is to be sold and monies divided equally among all his children. Two daughters have additional bequests: "one mulato girl named Gilley, about 3 yers old, which I lend to my daughter Lenay Sims, during her natural life, and after her death the girl Gilley and her increase, if any, to be one bed and furniture which I give and bequeath to my dau. Lucy Sims, before such sale takes place, and independent of that, she is to have one full share of the money ensuing from the sale of my estate." Some of his sons owed him money, and this they were to pay the estate before it was settled. Names of the children are listed, but not necessarily in order of birth.
