About Thomas Strong, III, of Northhampton

Much Initial information on the Strongs is from The History of the Descendants of Elder John Strong, of Northampton, Mass, vols 1 & 2 by Benjamin Dwight (Albany, NY: 1871, reprinted 1975) and in the several volumes of the Updates, Especially Strong Family Update, Vol. II by Robert Strong. (Baltimore: Gateway, 1990.) The Volume II update includes Thomas and his family on p. 7.

Some initial information on Thomas' line of descent from Elder John Strong is from Strong" in "East Hampton HIstory including Genealogies of Early Families by Jeannette Edwards Rattray (East Hampton, LI: Self, 1953,) pp. 566-7. The Strongs came from Taunton, England to New England in 1630, and Thomas Strong, fourth generation, settled in Wainscott [a village in Easthampton] shortly after 1700. The Oldest part of the house occupied by Charles Strong until his death in 1942 is said to have been built as a shop in 1695, prior to any real settlement in Wainscott. Birth info of four of their children is from this. Miss Mary Strong, Mrs. Morgan Topping, Edward M. B. Strong, William Hedges Strong, and Drr. Frederick A. Finch have furnished most of the material for the following Strong genealogy. ... There was another Thomas Strong in nearby Brookhaven. This Thomas died in 1760 and also had a daughter Abigail, who married Benjamin Havens in 1754 and had several children with him. This Thomas was the son of Selah Strong.
