GILBERT--Thomas, of Purchase, NY died peacefully at home on September 9. He was the beloved husband of Marjorie Gilbert. He is survived by his children Wendy Tayer, William Gorlin, and Douglas Gorlin, his grandchildren Richard Gorlin, Michael Gorlin, Madeleine Tayer, Melanie Tayer, and Jason Tayer, his daughter-in-law Natalie Gorlin and son-in-law Marc Tayer. Husband of the late Roseanne Gilbert, and father of the late Evan and Clifford Gilbert. He attended Loomis and Cheshire Academies and North Carolina State. President of S.L. Gilbert Co., Tom was an icon throughout the men's hosiery industry because he insisted on handling only exclusive merchandise. Infamous for treating others with utmost kindness and respect, he was an old fashioned gentleman beloved by all. Charity and modesty were his second name: President of the Harrison School Board, sponsored a foster child in the Philippines, ran the American Heart Association golf tournament for years, and showered his family with gifts, affection and understanding. Funeral service Tuesday at noon at Chapel in the Woods (Kol Ami), 252 Soundview Ave., White Plains, NY. Shiva at the Gilbert home Tuesday 4pm, Wednesday 1pm-4pm and 6pm-9pm.
