Thomas Tooke, son of James the immigrant married Mary, whose maiden name is unknown. In 1677, Thomas and Mary exchanged land with John Davis and his wife Mary. On 11 December 1671, Thomas Tooke gave a power of attorney to his "loving brother John Davis", this statement has been construded to mean that John Davis was the brother inlaw of Thomas, and that Thomas' wife , Mary, was a Davis. The statement may only mean that they were "brothers" in the Quaker sense of the word. Thomas Tooke was a Quaker, and as such, would only have married a person of that belief. The Quakers kept very accurate records of marriages, births and deaths. --White's "Early Quaker Records in Virginia",
