Thomas Wingate was born in 1672 in Manoakin Hundred, Somerset County, Maryland, the son of William Thomas Wingate (Wingod) (1649–1710) and Elizabeth Cooper (1651–1704).

Thomas married Jane Elliott (1675–1710) in 1695 in Dorchester County, Maryland. Their children were:

1. Margery Wingate (1698–1763)
2. John Wingate (1700–1743)
3. Elizabeth Wingate (1703–1786)
4. Philip Wingate (1705–1759)
5. Thomas Wingate, III (1708–1765)

Thomas passed away in 1712 in Dorcester County, Maryland.
