Reflected in Cleveland's city directory for 1938, he resided with his Aunt Martha at her rooming hotel addressed as 2343 E. 55th Street. That directory did not dislose an address for his father, who was likely living in Chicago at the time with his wife Pattie Willet, nor an address for his mom Ida. His accelerated graduation is supported by a 1940 Census conducted in Cleveland on April 5, 1940 in which he mentioned he attended high school for three years rather than four and his graduation picture which appears in Central High’s yearbook.</p>iant-caps: normal; orphans: 2; widows: 2; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial; word-spacing: 0px;"> </p>: 0in; margin-bottom: .0001pt; text-align: justify; background: white; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; orphans: 2; widows: 2; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial; word-spacing: 0px;">In the latter half of the 1930s he met Valgene Irene Brown.  She had moved from Canonsburg, Pennsylvania to Cleveland, Ohio when she was 15 years old.  After a brief courtship they married on February 6, 1940 when Valgene was roughly three months pregnant with their first child, Leonard David Winston.  Leonard was born on July 21, 1940 in Cleveland, OH.  Common knowledge existed at the time of Thomas's  marriage to Valgene that he had a son named Harvey, who was born to a Viola McCall a few years before this marriage.</p>widows: 2; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial; word-spacing: 0px;"> </p>text-align: justify; background: white; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; orphans: 2; widows: 2; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial; word-spacing: 0px;">A U.S. census conducted on April 5, 1940 in Cleveland establish Thomas David and Valgene then resided at 2123 E. 46th Street. At this time they lived with his mother's sister named Clara Jones (Doubt) and her husband David. This census also noted Thomas David was a porter at a hotel, likely the one operated by his Aunt Martha at this time.  According to a Cleveland City Directory published for 1943 thru 1944, he and Valgene later moved to a home addressed as 4310 Green Ct., Apt. 2314.</p>pt; text-align: justify; background: white; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; orphans: 2; widows: 2; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial; word-spacing: 0px;"> </p>caps: normal; orphans: 2; widows: 2; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial; word-spacing: 0px;">Rodney, their second child, was born on September 11, 1942.  On May 1, 1944 Thomas David enlisted in the U.S. Navy.  Before his enlistment he worked as a waiter at Canterbury Golf Club located at 22000 Woodland Road, Shaker Heights, Ohio. A record from the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs shows he was released from service on December 2, 1945, months after WWII ended on September 2, 1945.  Valgene indicated his ship was en route to Japan when bombs were dropped on Hiroshima (Aug. 6, 1945) and Nagasaki (August 9, 1945).</p>nd: white; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; orphans: 2; widows: 2; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial; word-spacing: 0px;"> </p>2; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial; word-spacing: 0px;">After his military service city directories establish he and Valgene lived in theGarden Valley Apartments, at 3187 E. 79<sup>th</sup> Street. These directories noted he was a machinist or machine operator, employed with the National Screw and Manufacturing Company. The couple maintained this address for close to a decade, from circa 1950 to 1959.  During this time the couple had Margaret E. (1952), Thomas E. (1954) and Donald and Douglas (1960). Around the time Donald and Douglas were born in February of 1960 he and Valgene had moved to the corner of E. 79th and Kinsman Avenue.  Years later they moved to a two story home in Cleveland, Ohio addressed as 8212Golden Avenue. He moved his family from Golden Avenue to 3385 E. 118th Street in Cleveland where he attended Epiphany Catholic Church, located off E. 119th and Union Avenue. He succumbed to cancer on March 2, 1975 at the young age of 54, after fighting this disease for roughly two years. He was buried on March 6, 1975.  His funeral was held at Epiphany Catholic Church and his body was buried at Highland Park Cemetery in Beachwood, OH, at Section 3, Lot No. 6, Tier No. 27, Grave No. 14.  </p>s="MsoNormal"> </p>
