"Tim" Thomas Simmers

The people shown in this portrait which found its way to us from Debbie Simmers Del Rio of Newport Beach, a cousin who decends from an uncle of George W. Simmers, Sr., Thomas S. Simmers, their father, George Simmers was a school teacher in Chester County PA. I have identified this George Simmers as a son of the James Simmers, who appears in the 1790 US Census (the very first) living side by side with a brother, Robert Simmers, in East Nantmeal township. These brothers were nearly the same age and had identical families. The portrait shows in the middle, George W. Simmers on one side, his wife Lizzy A. (McGowan?) Simmers, with infants G. Murch Simmers & Hiram McG Simmers, and top row James B. Simmers, George W. Simmers, Jr., Edward S. Simmers, and bottom row, Thomas W. Simmers, Mary Simmers, Sarah F. Simmers! On of these Children, Thomas Willard Simmers, subject of this Profile, married Grace Grayson in Idaho, and had 3 sons:

Charles Sampson Simmers and

Richard Robert Simmers. The family from Idaho to California - one son, Charles settling in the bay area, another, Richard in San Diego, and the third, Thomas W. Simmers, III settled in Pasadena/Arcadia area, as did Thomas and Grace, their parents.

Thomas, with wife Doris, had one daughter Janet Simmers Zusow(deceased), who had 2 children, Marcus and Carl.

Thomas Willard Simmers, Sr. was known in our family as "Uncle Tim" Simmers, with few people, apparently, knowing that his name was actually Thomas?

Charles Sampson Simmers married Ruie Melvin. Their children are:

Kevin R. Simmers, museum curator and yoga instructor in San Francisco was married in 2008 in a ceremony at City Hall to his Life Partner of some 28 years, Ed Carrigan.

Tim Melvin Simmers, son of Charles Sampson Simmers, and grandson of "Tim" (Thomas Willard Simmers ), is married to Alison Betts Simmers , and their son, Jesse Charles Simmers (same age as Jason Simmers) is married to Alexandra and together they have two children, Caitlin Skye Simmers and Timothy Simmers, b. 2005 & 2007 respectively!

Charles Simmers and Ruie Melvin also had a daughter, Ruie Kathleen "Cassie" Simmers who married a Mr. Tomlin and divorced about 1988. She lives in the Bay Area, as do her siblings.
