Home was near Mill River. He had 17 children, 8 were sons and it appears that to be by one of these alone that the name has been perpetuated in town to the present time. He was the only son of Moris that married & settled in Gloucester. Of 17 children, 12 were named in his will of Jan 29, 1706 which also mentions a daughter-in-law, Sarah Despar. He left an estate of 95 lbs. 9s.

In Street’s History of Mount Desert, is this statement: “Of these signers of the petition (to Gov. Bernard in 1768) Abraham Somes, the pioneer on the island, was the son of Abraham and Martha Emerson Somes, who were married at Gloucester in 1730, and was fourth in descent from Morris Somes (b. 1614) who with his wife, Marjorie, was one of the first settlers of Gloucester and ancestor of all the New England families of that name”. Thus we see that the Stanwood family and the Somes family were not only neighbors in Gloucester but they were related. Undoubtedly those that settled at about the same time at Mount Desert were relatives or close friends from the settlement at Gloucester.
