About Tito Augustine Ranieri

Was born in Italy, while his father was working on getting established in the clothing trade in Philadelphia. His grandfather, Tito Agostino, had an olive oil mill and traveled extensively in the Sangro Valley to serve his clientele, and very often took his grandson with him; on those occasions, young Tito received a precious education in the history of his family and his homeland. Came to America with his mother in 1921.
Graduate of Haverford High School in 1931. BS from Villanova in 1935. MD from University of Pennsylvania in 1939. Master of Science in Surgery, Penn, 1945.
During World War II, Dr. Ranieri served in the US Naval Medical Corps; he was physician-in-charge of the American Red Cross Blood Donor Service; later, he served during the Battle of Leyte, Philippines; he was Chief of Surgery at the US Naval Military Government Hospital in the Battle of Okinawa, from 1 April 1945 to 10 February 1946.
