Thomas Gruber, 94, of Canton, died Sunday, March 18, 1984, in his home. Thomas Gruber was born Nov. 12, 1889, in Canton, a son of Peter and Margaret Reiter Gruber. He married Edna Goodwin Sept. 25, 1912, in Kahoka. She died Oct. 18, 1979. He was a retired farmer and was the oldest member of Centenary United Methodist Church near Canton. Survivors include a son, Bob Gruber of Morrison, Ill; three daughters, Mrs. Bob Risk of Keoku, and Mrs. Zilpha Shatzer and Mrs. Willie H. Brown, both of Canton; 10 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; three step great grandchildren; and other relatives. He was also preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, a sister, an infant brother and sister, and a grandson. Funeral services were held Wednesday in the Davis Funeral Chapel, Canton, conducted by the Rev. Eloise Marx Shults Temple. Mrs. Shirley Brown provided organ music. Pall bearers were Kenneth Collins, Dennis Carter, Gary Risk, Jack Hendle, Otis Brown and Wayne Clark. Burial was in Forest Grove Cemetery.
